I think you are doing fantastic Charlotte! It is very difficult to accurately expose phots where there is a distinct difference in skin tones...and by my eye you are doing very well. I don't know exactly the coloring of Lanie but to me in the photos she looks rich and chocolately. I would tend to underexpose for her..to make sure she doesn't look too grayish..Also when taking pics of both of them cheek to cheek together..you want to focus directly on the person eye that is closest to you. Not the actually eye itself but the corner of the eye that connects the bridge of the nose. FOr not taking any classes and just using books you are a class act!
